Waterproof Walking Shoes For Those Irritating Wet Days

Ok, I admit it. I am a fair weather walker. Walking in rain or snow has no charm for me. I prefer to be warm and dry. There is nothing worse that sopping wet feet. It makes you feel cold all over, so using a treadmill is my choice during inclement weather. Some you walk rain or shine and there are waterproof walking shoes to keep your feet dry while you walk. I admire your resolve, but I’m staying inside.

You can waterproof your shoes yourself by using a Scotch guard spray on your shoes. It repels water somewhat, but is not truly waterproof. Sno-Seal and some welt seal guard will do a more thorough job. You can wear some overshoes, but that will probably hinder your gait. Some people put plastic newspaper bags over their shoes or over socks before putting on shoes. Obviously this is a one time use option and putting plastic bags over socks creates a soggy sock, ugh. If none of these appeals to you, buy some waterproof shoes to walk in. Yes, they will cost you a bit more, but if you insist on walking regardless of the weather, it’s a worthwhile investment.

The appropriately named Bogs brand makes a completely waterproof walking shoe for men with non slip soles at a cost of around $50.00. They only come in green, but are rated to keep your feet warm and dry at -20 degrees. New Balance Country Walking shoe for women is a rugged waterproof leather walking shoe. Rockport also makes waterproof walking shoes for men and women. In fact almost every major manufacturer has a waterproof or water resistant option. Look for something with Gore-Tex. The protection on these usually lasts around three years.

People who work outdoors will find that waterproof shoes and boots are an important part of their show wardrobe. The avid outdoorsmen among you will also appreciate a shoe that will keep their feet dry and comfortable. Before we lived here in the frozen Northeast, I worked outdoors and found my waterproof duck shoes to be invaluable.

Seriously, if you live in a particularly rainy or snowy climate, invest in some waterproof walking shoes. Your feet will thank you. You can slop around in puddles and snow banks to your heart’s content. I’ll be in the house, warm and dry.
